Media Type Description
Australia Limestone A light brown limestone with shell fragments and brown grain markings in strips. Medium hard, durable outside with a silicon sealant to preserve natural stone color.
English Bath Stone A pure white limestone with no grain, originally from Bath, in England, it is durable outside, with a silicon sealant required to retain original color. Medium hard.
Hinuera Stone Sandstone with a 95% glass content, a highly durable outdoor material. Comes in a range of hardness from soft to hard, with a similar range of colors, from cream, to brown grain like markings, to a spotty appearance in the hardest type. Color of stone can be preserved with a silicon sealant.
 Kauri Wood A soft glowing gold colored wood with beautiful grain, will change to a grey color if sited outdoors.
Macrocarpa Similar to Kauri in appearance, this medium hard wood has a natural preservative in it making it suitable for outdoor sculpture, and changes to a glowing silver color with weathering.
Takaka Marble A native NZ marble from the south island. This stone is very hard and can be taken to a high polish. Suitable for indoors or out, it ranges in color from pure white to a grain with color of reds, browns, oranges and whites.
Mt. Somers Stone A very hard, high density limestone from Mt. Somers, in the South Island. Pure white, a silicon sealant is required to retain this color.
Oamaru Stone A soft white limestone, sometimes having light yellow grain markings. This stone is a highly durable outdoor material, requiring a silicon sealant to retain the natural color of the stone.
Andesite A very hard, volcanic, silicone based stone. Quarries are in the upper North Island and in New Plymouth. Stone color ranges from black through reds, greys, browns, and even dark green. This stone can be taken to a high polish and requires no treatment to sustain its color when placed outside. I use andesite from the Taranaki and the Waikato region.
